As the summer holiday season gets underway and most children are getting ready to enjoy a six-week break from school, new research by MoneySuperMarket* has revealed that one in five UK families will not be taking any kind of break this summer.

Of these, a third described going on holiday with their family as “too much hassle”, while a quarter said they couldn’t get enough time off work.

The research also revealed two in five families are planning to take a staycation this summer.

When asked why, 45 percent of parents said it was simply too expensive to go abroad, 35 percent said they preferred a cheaper UK holiday, a quarter said they’ve always gone on UK based holidays and wanted to continue the tradition, and 20 percent said traveling with children on airplanes was too difficult.

With more and more families choosing to remain in the UK, it’s inevitable that UK roads are going to feel the strain.
